The Ministry of Transport has set the end of this year as the date for the inauguration of the bridge project linking the Grand Port of Al-Faw and the Safwan District, to be one of the main roads among the five projects for the port.
Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Eqtisad News” that a new phase has begun in the Grand Al-Faw Port project, represented by the erection of the tributaries of the bridges of the road linking the port and the Safwan district, and the first bridge has been started, indicating that it is part of The road project linking the Grand Port of Al-Faw and Safwan, passing through the Khor Al-Zubair Canal via the submerged tunnel, crossing the (Basra-Umm Qasr) road, through this 805-meter-long bridge, and then linking to the Safwan International Road with a second bridge.
He revealed that the work of the pillars, foundations and walls of this bridge has been completely completed, and the work of installing the 204 concrete joists of different lengths has begun, the largest number of which ranges between 40 and 50 metres, indicating that the completion rates of the first bridge have reached more than 62 percent, and it is hoped that It will be completed within the specified time frame, which does not exceed the end of the current year, indicating that the work on the five piers project has exceeded 86 percent completion rates.
