[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta, Ian Borg, to discuss opening new horizons for economic and trade cooperation in various fields, on the sidelines of the thirteenth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in the city of Abu Dhabi, Emirates.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Ghurairi stressed, according to the ministry’s statement, “the Iraqi government’s directions to expand and develop economic and trade relations at all levels with all countries of the world, indicating the desire to put in place practical steps to open new frameworks for economic and trade cooperation while increasing the volume of trade exchange with Malta, which is based on common interests.” .
The Minister stressed "the necessity of working to activate the joint committee emerging from the agreement signed between Iraq and Malta in 1985, which contributes to opening new horizons for the private sector in both countries to benefit from opportunities and investments for projects in various fields by focusing on the geographical location and economic dimension of both countries."
He called on "the Maltese side for the participation of Maltese companies in international and specialized exhibitions held inside Iraq and other economic events."
For his part, Maltese Minister Ian Borg stressed, "Malta has good and positive relations and potential on the economic and commercial level, and is part of the European Union. It desires to strengthen relations with Iraq and open a commercial center in Malta to discover commercial and investment opportunities in Iraq, as well as the potential for cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical and agricultural exports." On a patent from Malta, he continued, “I agree with you on the necessity of activating the joint committee and the agreements signed between our two countries.”
At the same time, he stressed, "Malta is ready to be a gateway for Iraqi goods and products to enter European markets."
