Today, Thursday (March 7, 2024), the Baghdad Provincial Council confirmed the presence of various government oversight on all markets in the capital with the approach of Ramadan to prevent any price manipulation.
Council member Ola Al-Tamimi told “Baghdad Today” that “there is strict government control over all markets in the capital, Baghdad, with Ramadan approaching, to prevent any greedy person from manipulating prices, and the control will increase during the blessed month, and there is strict control over this file by the government.” Local Baghdad through its own committees.”
Al-Tamimi confirmed, “The Baghdad government and its council are working according to the powers they have to follow up on the issue of high food prices, and are working on monitoring to prevent this manipulation, and we are working to hold everyone who carries out this work accountable, through legal procedures,” noting that “there is coordination and communication with The competent security authorities in the Ministry of Interior and National Security.
Yesterday, Wednesday (March 6, 2024), the Ministry of Interior confirmed the continuation of the campaign to monitor local markets in Baghdad and the rest of the governorates, to prevent price manipulation as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Miqdad al-Moussawi told Baghdad Today, “The competent forces in the Ministry of Interior from Economic Security, in coordination with the oversight teams in the Ministry of Commerce, are continuing the campaign to monitor all local markets for the purpose of monitoring prices and preventing any manipulation of those prices.”
Al-Moussawi stated, “The monitoring and follow-up campaign continues in all markets in Baghdad and the governorates, and the maximum penalties will be taken against anyone who wants to manipulate prices during these days and during the holy month of Ramadan, and the campaign continues to prevent greedy people from exploiting citizens.”
