On Friday, the official of the Turkmen Front in Kirkuk, Qahtan al-Wandawi, expressed his hope that the meetings of Kirkuk’s political components with Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani would lead to an end to the governorate’s crisis.
Al-Wandawi told Al-Maalouma, “The position of Kirkuk Governor is still vacant despite the continuous meetings with the Prime Minister,” noting that “the components of the governorate submitted papers containing their opinions.”
He added, "Everyone is continuing meetings to overcome obstacles and resolve the matter of the Kirkuk local government, as the political parties in Kirkuk still do not agree on a specific personality or mechanism for forming a local government, despite holding the third meeting with the Prime Minister."
He added, "All the meetings held are consultative meetings, and during them the governor's file in Kirkuk was not resolved, except for the last session, which witnessed the submission of official papers containing the opinions of all components in Kirkuk."
He stated, "There are side meetings held with the committee formed by the Prime Minister, and these meetings come to discuss the demands of each component, as there will be other meetings in order to overcome obstacles and reach a formula acceptable to everyone to form the local government in Kirkuk."
