    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced draft laws that include ownership of land for farmers, and while it indicated that it is awaiting legislation, it confirmed that these laws will limit encroachments on agricultural lands and prevent their exploitation for housing.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahdi Sahar Al-Jubouri, said: “The Ministry worked on several laws related to the ownership of agricultural lands and made amendments to them, especially amending Law 35 of 1983 regarding the lease of agricultural lands, which included the ownership of 5 to 10 dunams for each agricultural contract and submitting it to the House of Representatives to vote on it.” In addition to Law 24 of 2013 regarding full-time agricultural workers, which stipulates ownership of agricultural lands without compensation.”
He pointed out that "these laws will bring about a major qualitative leap in the work of the agricultural sector after their legislation by Parliament," explaining that "these laws will limit encroachments on agricultural lands and prevent their exploitation for residential purposes."
He continued, "The main goal of owning agricultural lands, especially those near cities, is to preserve the agricultural area and establish projects specialized in animal and agricultural production that will achieve a significant impact in providing food security."
