The Ministry of Transport revealed the latest preparations for the Development Road Project, and while indicating that a specialized team will visit a number of countries to clarify the government’s vision for the project, it confirmed that the trains that will be used in the project are modern, environmentally friendly, high-speed, and operate in accordance with European specifications. .
The Director of Information at the Ministry of Transport, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview: We are in the preliminary designs stage of the development road project, after which there will be a transition to the final designs stage, and after the designs are completed, the project will be presented to the companies and the most appropriate company for this project will be chosen, stressing that we are now working within the specified timings and proceeding according to Established time periods.
He added that there was a meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport, in the presence of a number of representatives of the ministries and governorates involved in the development road project and paths, and there were clear directives. The meeting confirmed that the path of the development road would be the main one and its paths would be fixed in the event of conflict with other projects, stressing that the development road paths were chosen in accordance with International specifications through the Italian consulting company and in a manner commensurate with the nature of the country in general.
He pointed out that the development road is a comprehensive strategic project, indicating that there will be other institutions within the project that are related to the project, such as border crossings, as well as a number of relevant ministries such as the Interior, Environment, and Finance...
He pointed out that Iraq’s strategic partner in this project is the Turkish side, so the infrastructure for the development road is for the side. The Turkish side is ready and they have ready infrastructure, with the exception of an area estimated at 270 km towards the Iraqi border, and they are currently interested in the procedures for completing it, indicating that the distance of the development road from the Fish Khabur point, passing through Turkish territory towards the Turkish-Bulgarian border, is estimated at 1,500 km, indicating that there is communication with the Turkish side, whether at the level of committees. He stated that there is a Quartet Council that includes Turkey, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Hungary. These countries will be part of the Iraqi delegation’s visit to them.
