    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (April 24, 2024), the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee commented on Iraq’s signing of a security memorandum of understanding that includes an aspect related to Turkey’s training of Iraqi forces.
Committee member Ali Al-Bindawi told “Baghdad Today” that “the security memorandum of understanding between Iraq and Turkey is important in this aspect, as it will push Turkey to stop the attacks on Iraq’s sovereignty that have been ongoing for many years, and this memorandum will control the borders and prevent the presence of any groups outside the borders.” "The law threatens both countries."
Al-Bandawi stated, “Turkey’s training of the Iraqi forces is important, especially since Turkey is considered one of the developed and advanced countries in the security and military field, and this matter does not affect the nature of the work of the international coalition, especially since the military committees are still working to end the presence of the coalition, and for this reason Iraq needs more Security cooperation at various levels with different countries, including Turkey.”
The day before yesterday, during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the capital, Baghdad, Iraq and Turkey signed 26 memorandums of understanding, including “a memorandum of understanding in the field of military training, between the Iraqi and Turkish ministries of defense, and a memorandum of understanding on training and cooperation in the field of military health, between the Iraqi and Turkish ministries of defense, and a memorandum of understanding.” For strategic cooperation between the Military Industrialization Authority and the Turkish Defense Industries Secretariat, and a memorandum of understanding for security cooperation between the Iraqi and Turkish Ministries of Interior.
