Bringing life back to hundreds of stalled projects

The Ministry of Planning announced a decrease in the number of lagging projects, while revealing the launch of the “Third Poverty Alleviation Strategy” during the next stage.
The Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, Maher Johan, told Al-Sabah: “The Ministry indicated a decrease in the lagging projects after proceeding with their completion quickly,” noting that “we had hoped that all the lagging projects would return to work at the end of last year, but that did not happen due to problems.” Or the details of some of these projects,” he added, “The projects that are currently lagging in the governorates are on the right path, and what is important is that they do not stall again.”
Johan continued, "Hundreds of projects have been stalled and their return to life requires additional spending. Therefore, there must be a balance in this matter, that is, not to bring a project back to life without ensuring its continuity until it is completely completed."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed last week that completing the lagging projects is a matter beyond discussion for the government, and he said in a press conference that the lagging projects, which numbered 1,321 projects and cost 23 trillion dinars, have been activated, and confidence has been given to the implementing companies that there will be no interruption to work.
Last March, during a dialogue session organized by the “Al-Rafidain Forum” in Baghdad, the Prime Minister stressed that his mission and the mission of his government in particular is to “close the file of lagging projects once and for all,” indicating that some of these projects date back to the year 2008. In
addition, and regarding that. Poverty alleviation projects: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning for Technical Affairs, Maher Johan, explained that its projects exist and that the “third strategy” will be launched once the economic and social survey is completed, to ensure that the projects of the two programs complement each other.
