    The Ministry of Water Resources announced, on Saturday, that advanced completion rates have been achieved with the work of clearing the main rivers in Basra. 
    A statement from the ministry, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, said: “The General Authority for Maintenance of Irrigation and Drainage Projects/Department of Maintenance of Irrigation and Drainage Projects in Basra announced the completion of 100% disinfection work in the Basra Water Project, Al-Bidaa Canal, with a total length of 184 km.t.” .

    The statement added, "The cleansing work comes in order to ensure the flow of water in the canal, with the completion of the removal of the chamblane plant from the right and left storage and sedimentation basins of the Basra Water Project, in an amount of 100,000 m2," stressing, "Work is currently underway to remove the chamblane plant from the third large reserve storage basin." With an amount of 700,000 square meters within the plan and using herbal harvesters.”

    The statement continued, “The Maintenance Directorate in the governorate divided the governorate into three work sectors to facilitate the work and complete the plan within its timing, as the southern sector includes the districts of Al-Faw, Ras Al-Bisha, Sihan, Al-Sibah, and the Abu Al-Khasib rivers, and the middle sector includes Al-Deir, Al-Nashwa, Al-Haritha, and Shatt Al-Arab, while the sector includes North: Qurna, Medina, and Imam Al-Sadiq district.

    The statement indicated, “Work continues in all sections, using specialized machinery, including long- and short-arm excavators and amphibious excavators, as the completion rate in all sections reached 54%, which is within what is planned by the directorate.” Also, “There are works that have been completed in Areas north of Basra, represented by the opening and construction of main and subsidiary canals in Zijri, Al-Subaitiyya, and Al-Saqiya.”

    The administration of the Basra Irrigation and Drainage Projects Maintenance Directorate confirmed, "the readiness of its engineering and technical personnel and their automated efforts to carry out any work assigned to them outside the plan."
