The Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, announced today, Thursday, the gradual release of large quantities of water in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Al-Hamdani said in a press statement, that the releases come within the ministry’s plan to preserve water levels in these rivers, after reducing the quantities of release in water tanks and dams in a controlled procedure during the transitional phase, between the winter and summer seasons of cultivation to the absence of the need for these quantities.
He added that the ministry has directed to put real treatments in Shatt al-Brahim and al-Kasr on the Al-Gharraf River, with the approaching start of the summer agricultural season at the beginning of next week, indicating that “this plan does not have a problem despite the decline of rain and snow cover in the whole region, and the decline in Iraq's revenues from them. However, the ministry’s policy was sensing these challenges and took many measures to control the current situation.
The Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, arrived in Dhi Qar this morning as part of an inspection tour of the ministry's projects in the governorate.
