    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Duraid Jamil Ishou, commented today, Monday (June 17, 2024), on Iraq’s failure to recover the fugitive heads of major corruption.
Ishua told "Baghdad Today" that "there is no failure in the issue of recovering the fugitive corrupt people and the top heads of corruption. Iraq was able during the past periods to recover many of them, and there is a lot of recovery from some countries, and this matter will not be tolerated at all."
He added, "Iraq has international agreements with all countries, including the Gulf states, and Iraq is communicating with everyone in order to recover fugitives or smuggled state funds, but this matter is not an easy matter, as it requires many legal procedures and also needs to follow up on these fugitives through the international police, and we believe that this is the stage... "The coming period will witness the recovery of a number of fugitive corrupt people."
The head of the Integrity Commission, Haider Hanoun, announced last April that the commission would be restored within a year of returning about 20 fugitive defendants and convicts outside Iraq and coordinating the return of 15 defendants who had been identified with some of the countries in which they fled, such as Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Integrity announced earlier yesterday the recovery of a convicted defendant who fled to Belarus and embezzled 6 billion dinars.
