    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (June 18, 2024), political analyst Adnan Al-Tamimi gave a reading about the statements of the candidate for the position of new US ambassador to Iraq.
Al-Tamimi told "Baghdad Today", "The statements of the new candidate for the position of US ambassador in Baghdad (Tracy Jacobson) reflect the vision of President Biden's government in Iraq, and they carry connotations of the concept of the hawks in the White House who goes to extremism in his foreign relations by all means to achieve his agenda," according to him. .
He added, "Jacobson's statements, although they reflect clear interference in the internal affairs of the Iraqi state, carry four important messages related to the economic affairs, the fate of her country's forces, and her view of Iraqi-Iranian relations. But the most dangerous thing is confronting the armed factions, which is a sign that the next stage will not be devoid of assassinations and this matter." "It may lead to tensions that break the state of calm that has persisted for months in Iraq."
Al-Tamimi pointed out, “America, with its high capabilities, failed to thwart dozens of attacks that targeted its bases in Anbar and Erbil, even though it assassinated some faction leaders, but Washington knows that opening a front with it carries a high price.”
He continued, "The next American ambassador will be in accordance with the positions and agenda she declared, that she is like someone who sets fires and may not have the tools to extinguish them," pointing out that "the escalation is dangerous, but in any case the ball is in the government's court in drawing firm lines in dealing with the new ambassador according to Positions that do not serve its policy, the most important of which is refusal to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.”
A few days ago, Tracy Jacobson, US President Joe Biden's nominee for the position of US Ambassador to Iraq, gave her opening speech before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, during which she indicated that the presence of economic development and a government capable of providing services to its people reduces the attraction of terrorism and reduces... Also from the influence of militias allied with Iran, which pose a great danger to the future of the country,” she said.
She said, "Iran is a malicious actor in Iraq and destabilizes the region. We realize that the main threat to Iraq is the militias allied with Iran."
Jacobson also confirmed that she would continue to support Treasury measures to modernize the Iraqi banking system, and stressed that she would not “allow Iran to use the gas supplied to operate the stations as a weapon against Iraq.”
On the other hand, Jacobson warned of “Iran’s evil intentions and its continued role in disturbing the security situation in the region,” stressing that “the Iranian-backed militias pose a great threat to the stability of Iraq, and that it will work with all available political means to confront this threat and limit Iranian influence,” as she put it. .
In the first official Iraqi response, the security advisor to the President of the Iraqi Council, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, last Sunday considered the speech of the ambassador nominated to represent Washington in Baghdad to be “inappropriate to her diplomatic tasks.”
Counselor Khaled Al-Yaqoubi said in a tweet, “We listened to the speech of the candidate for the position of US ambassador to Iraq, which included a clear lack of understanding of the new, recovering Iraq, interference in its internal affairs, and insults to its neighbors.”
Al-Yaqoubi added: “The candidate must be aware of the clear fact that some of what she spoke is not compatible with the tasks of her new job, and that her expected mission is defined by clear international agreements and treaties.”
