Shafaq News/ Despite holding the first sessions, and after seven months of deadlock, members of the Kirkuk Council saw that dialogues to hold or set a date for a new session - do not exist - in the near future.
Kirkuk Provincial Council member Ahmed Ramzi told Shafaq News Agency, "The council members have no knowledge and have not been contacted to hold any new session," noting that "the Prime Minister did not specify or inform the political blocs to hold a meeting for the council members or the political blocs."
Ramzi explained that "the session that was held last Thursday and was adjourned by the oldest president in order to agree on the distribution of positions, which include the management of Kirkuk Governorate, the management of the provincial council, and the rest of the positions, was not followed by any dialogues or meetings with the rest of the political blocs for the purpose of agreeing on the positions."
He continued: "There is no date for holding a second session, and we have not been informed of any meeting of the political blocs with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani for the purpose of completing what has been started in holding the session and what will happen after it in distributing positions," indicating that "the council members are working to record their commencement and the accompanying administrative and legal procedures that prove the work of the provincial council member and preserve his rights."
The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and members of the Kirkuk Provincial Council considered, last Thursday, holding the first session as a "preliminary step" for the continuation of holding Kirkuk Council sessions, with the aim of starting it within a month to complete the process of selecting the governor and the council president, in accordance with the agreement to include all components in the positions.
Last Thursday, the oldest member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, Rakan Saeed Al-Jubouri, adjourned the first session until political agreements are reached to form the local administration.
Kirkuk Provincial Council held its first regular session last Thursday to elect a new governor and head of the provincial council, headed by the council’s technical assistant to the governor, Ali Hammadi, amid tight security measures with the deployment of elements of the Iraqi police and army.
