    Baghdad Today - Translation
Bloomberg Economic Network revealed in a report published today, Sunday (July 21, 2024), that Iraq has begun importing electricity from Turkey with the aim of reducing dependence on the Iranian source as a result of disagreements over the supply cuts from Iran, which suffers from a local need for energy.
The network said, according to what was translated by "Baghdad Today", that an Iraqi-Turkish plan for economic cooperation in the field of energy dates back twenty years, and has now begun to work, as Iraq now imports about 300 megawatts of electrical energy from Turkish lines over a line extending over an area of 115 kilometers.
She continued: The line that entered into operation now supplies the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk and Tikrit, explaining that it represents a trend by the Iraqi government to "reduce dependence" on the Iranian source of energy and diversify its sources with the aim of avoiding continuous power outages during the hot seasons in the country.
It is noteworthy that the import of electricity from Iran has been subject to fluctuations during the past period as a result of Iran's increasing domestic need for energy and the existence of "political problems" that prevent the transfer of hard currency between Iraq and Iran, despite Baghdad obtaining an exemption from the US economic sanctions imposed on Tehran, according to its description.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Mohammed al-Shiaa al-Sudani inaugurated the Turkish-Iraqi line to supply the national grid with electricity.
