"The US Department of Defense continues to monitor developments in the Middle East around the clock," Ryder said in a press briefing, adding: "We seek to reduce tension and have taken every step to strengthen Israel and its readiness to defend it."
He pointed out that "the Pentagon will not say anything about the possibility of Israel launching a preemptive strike against any threat from Tehran or its agents in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and Syria."

Earlier on Monday, Fox News reported that Iran could launch an attack on Israel within the next 24 hours.
Israel and the United States are preparing for a possible Iranian attack after Tehran threatened to respond to Israel, which it accuses of assassinating Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.
The Pentagon announced that the US Secretary of Defense ordered the dispatch of a missile submarine to the Middle East and the acceleration of the arrival of an aircraft carrier group to the region before an expected Iranian attack against Israel.
The United States, Britain, France, Germany and Italy expressed, in a joint statement, their support for defending Israel against any Iranian attack or groups supported by Tehran.
Informed sources told Fox News that Iran could attack Israel in less than 24 hours, while Western powers issued a warning to Tehran against launching its expected attack.
