    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP for the Badr parliamentary bloc, Mukhtar Mahmoud, confirmed today, Sunday (August 18, 2024), that private hospitals are fronts for influential political parties, while accusing the Ministry of Health of not following up on the work of those hospitals, which led to an increase in medical errors in them.
Mahmoud told Baghdad Today, "There is no oversight by the Ministry of Health on the work of private hospitals, and licenses for these hospitals are granted through taking bribes," indicating, "This is why the results are medical errors, some of which are fatal, given that the work of these hospitals is a commercial transaction at the expense of the health and safety of citizens."
He explained that "some private hospitals are fronts for influential political parties," stressing "the necessity of following up on the file of private hospitals by the relevant authorities, especially in light of the high rate of medical errors in the work of those hospitals, in addition to following up on the medicines sold in those hospitals, since some of them have expired."
On Monday, July 15, 2024, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of 11 suspects inside a warehouse containing human medicines not subject to examination by the Ministry of Health in central Baghdad.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement received by Baghdad Today that "after obtaining judicial approvals, a force from the Organized Crime Combating Directorate in the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency in the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the holding force, in conjunction with a committee from the Ministry of Health, was able to seize a warehouse of medicines not subject to inspection by the Ministry of Health in the Karrada area of Baghdad, which were hidden in a secret warehouse."
She added, "The force also arrested 11 suspects inside the warehouse, which contained 11 million boxes of medicines of various origins."
She pointed out that "the necessary legal measures will be taken against those arrested, the seized materials will be handed over in a proper manner, and the warehouse will be closed."
