The head of the Erbil office of the International Organization for Migration in Iraq, Yuko Fujimura, confirmed on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, that the Kurdistan Regional Government has proven its ability to provide effective support to the displaced and refugees.
In an interview, Yoko Fujimura expressed her “thanks and gratitude to the Kurdistan Regional Government for receiving a large number of displaced persons and refugees, praising the leadership of the region for managing the displaced persons camps.”
Fujimura explained that “the Kurdistan Regional Government has coordinated with international bodies to provide humanitarian aid to the displaced, and has also effectively coordinated with the federal government.”
She stressed that "the Kurdistan Regional Government has proven its ability to provide effective support to people in need, and has provided the best services to the displaced."
Regarding the return of the displaced to their homes, Fujimura stressed that “the organization supports the voluntary return of the displaced to their areas,” noting that “the final decision regarding the return must remain in the hands of the displaced themselves.”
She pointed out that "the International Organization for Migration will continue to coordinate with the Kurdistan Regional Government and support its leadership."
