    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]Basra Provincial Council Chairman Khalaf Al-Badran revealed today, Saturday, the plan for projects and funds allocated to Basra in the year 2024.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Badran said: “The vote on the 2024 projects plan in Basra is expected to be in the coming weeks after a second in-depth discussion of the plan was held in the first session of the council next week,” noting that “the plan aims primarily to reach four broad titles that constitute the pillars of the plan, which are an educational and health renaissance, establishing sustainable infrastructure, an effective partnership between the local government and the private sector, and providing job opportunities for a broad sector in various governorates.”[/rtl]

[rtl]He pointed out that "the value of the 2024 projects plan, which amounts to about 853 projects, exceeded 2 trillion and 280 million dinars," indicating that "the broad impact on the infrastructure sector of the governorate, which constitutes part of the future of the national economy, is foreseen within a plan prepared by Basra Governorate that focused on sustainable development in cities and local communities and economic, social and environmental dimensions." He added: "The education sector had the largest part, represented in building about 206 schools in a modern style and equipping them with all educational requirements to complete the government's plan to get rid of double shifts."[/rtl]

[rtl]He continued: "About 94 projects were allocated to the health sector in addition to building 7 veterinary hospitals. Also, 88 projects were allocated to the water sector, 83 projects to the municipalities, and 78 projects to the electricity sector in addition to 59 projects to develop and expand the Basra Police College and centers. The plan also included establishing projects for more than 30 other service departments in the governorate, which is inhabited by more than 4 million people, in addition to receiving more than a million foreigners from other governorates working in the oil sector and ports, in addition to foreign and Arab companies and investors looking for investment opportunities and government contracts in Basra."[/rtl]

[rtl]In turn, the head of the Finance Committee in Basra Provincial Council, Shukr Mahmoud, said, “The project plan that reached the provincial council from the provincial office was prepared by the provincial planning directorate in coordination with the directors of service departments in the centers, districts and sub-districts,” stressing that “the total number of projects is 6,000 projects, and 859 projects were selected from them.”[/rtl]

[rtl]He pointed out that "there is a possible change to the priority selection or addition to it according to the financial allocations that will come from the Ministry of Finance," indicating that "the provincial council plans to increase the revenues generated within the petrodollar and ports allocations, as well as from the federal fees in the province to escalate the revenues achieved during the year in a way that ensures the creation of capabilities to establish ambitious projects that help develop sustainable infrastructure, as well as entering into a partnership to establish investment projects with the private and government sectors."[/rtl]
