    Hussein Faleh:
The government media team announced the completion of 465 model schools in all governorates, and while confirming the start of the furnishing phase, it set the date for the completion of the first phase of the school buildings project, which includes the construction of a thousand schools.
The spokesman for the government media team, Haider Majeed, said in an interview with “Al-Zawraa”: The number of model school buildings completed so far is 465 schools distributed across all governorates with three capacities of 12 classrooms, 18 classrooms and 24 classrooms. Stressing: These completed numbers came in conjunction with the plan set by the Department of National Projects and School Buildings in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, this plan that raises all the details of the work stages and the percentages of completion to the Prime Minister on a monthly basis for follow-up.
He added: There are periodic meetings of the Higher Committee for School Construction to follow up and keep pace with this project. Indicating: The first phase includes the construction of a thousand schools, which is scheduled to end at the end of this year.
He pointed out: The buildings have been completed, and now the furnishing phase of these buildings has begun. Noting: According to the Prime Minister's directives, the completed school buildings should be furnished in a manner appropriate and suitable for these architectural edifices that are being implemented for the first time in Iraq with their designs. Explaining: A joint committee was formed between the Advisory Board in the Prime Minister's Office, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Education, and directives were issued to the Ministry of Education to adopt this file, provided that contracts are made with solid companies, whether from the public and private sectors or in partnership between them.
He stressed: The completion of the first phase, amounting to a thousand schools, will contribute significantly to ending the phenomenon of caravan and mud schools and schools that contain two and three shifts, and this is the plan and vision of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers in parallel with the government curriculum and the ministerial program and the government's directions to end this file that has suffered from both our students and our educational staff.
Earlier, Majeed pointed out that “the government is working in 5 directions in the school file and ending overcrowding and double shifts,” noting that “the first direction is the model school buildings project, of which 330 schools have been completed so far throughout Iraq with a capacity of 12-24 classrooms.”
He added that “the first phase of this project is scheduled to be completed next November and 1,000 schools will be delivered,” indicating that “the second direction is the Ministry of Education’s project number one, which has been stalled since 2012 and which faced 9 legal problems, all of which were resolved by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. The project has completed 450 schools.”
He continued, “The third direction is building 1,500 schools with the participation of the private sector within the Iraq Development Fund projects, and the fourth direction is regional development projects, which also include projects to build schools, while the fifth direction includes rehabilitating schools, including expanding them as much as possible. The Ministry of Education launched the Year of School Buildings, and about 2,000 schools have been rehabilitated. These projects aim to end the phenomenon of overcrowding and double shifts.”
He pointed out that "Iraq needs 12,000 schools, according to figures from the Ministries of Education and Planning, to end the overcrowding that has occurred, and the government's projects to achieve this goal are making continuous progress."
Majeed pointed out that “the model school buildings project includes the completion of 8,000 schools in three phases,” indicating that “the first phase includes 1,000 schools and we are waiting to start the second phase, which includes 3,000 schools.”[/size]
