About early elections.. Al-Maliki's coalition describes them as semi-legal within the government's program!

There is a state of anticipation in the Iraqi political arena with increasing talk about the possibility of holding early elections, as this option has been included in the new government’s program.
The announcement of the possibility of holding early elections sparked mixed reactions among political forces, as some parties see it as an opportunity for change and reform, while others consider it a step that could deepen the state of political division.
Current discussions focus on setting a clear timeframe for holding these elections, in addition to identifying outstanding issues that need to be addressed to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
With increasing pressure, it seems that the government is facing a major challenge in fulfilling this promise, especially in light of the sensitive economic and security conditions that the country is going through.
The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Sheikh Haider Al-Lami, confirmed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani had included early elections within his government program, noting that the current session has one year left after setting October 25 of next year as the date for holding parliamentary elections.
Al-Lami said, “Early elections have become almost a law after they were included in the government program of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s government, and this program was voted on in the House of Representatives.”
He added, "There are 29 points approved by the government within its government program, with the approval of everyone and the consensus of the House of Representatives on that program, as the parliamentary elections were set for November 25, 2025."
He explained that “the current session has one year left, and any date on which elections are held before the mentioned date is considered early elections, especially since Al-Sudani has included this within the government’s program, at a time when the government has announced its readiness to go towards early elections if asked to do so.”
For his part, political affairs expert Hammam Al-Hayani said, “The political arena in Iraq is witnessing increasing discussions about the possibility of holding early elections, as different points of view emerge on this issue.”
He added, "The increasing pressures may push the current government to consider holding early elections, but the political division between the various forces is a major obstacle, which makes it more difficult to achieve consensus on the details of the electoral process."
Al-Hayani stressed “the importance of setting new laws and a clear time frame to organize the elections, which poses an additional challenge to the government, and that previous electoral experiences that witnessed complications and postponements raise questions about the current government’s ability to fulfill the promise of early elections.”
He continued, “Expectations regarding the possibility of holding early elections seem mixed,” noting that “the current situation may hinder this step.”
