“Thursday”: The framework informed the Sunni parties of the “deadline” for electing the Speaker of Parliament!

In a remarkable political development, the spokesman for the Victory Coalition, Salam al-Zubaidi, announced that the “Coordination Framework” had set Thursday as the last date for electing a speaker for the Iraqi parliament.
According to Al-Zubaidi, the Sunni political parties were informed of this deadline in order to move forward with forming the leadership bodies in parliament, reflecting the increasing pressure to achieve a political consensus that would end the stalemate in the political process.
This step comes within the framework of the Coordination Framework's efforts to pressure for the acceleration of the completion of this legislative entitlement, amid political and social challenges that require broad consensus among the various parties participating in the political process.
Al-Zubaidi said in a television interview, "It was decided in the meeting that the House of Representatives would hold a meeting on Thursday to elect a new president."
Al-Zubaidi pointed out that “the Sunni parties were informed of the decision,” stressing that “Thursday is the last date for electing the Speaker of Parliament.”
If the Sunnis do not agree on a candidate, Al-Zubaidi explained that “the issue will be resolved through a vote in Parliament.”
A brief statement by the Coordination Framework announced that “the acting head of the council will call for the session, and it will be dedicated to electing the president only.”
For his part, Thaer Al-Jubouri, a representative of the Coordination Framework, confirmed the continuation of the Sunni House’s conflict over the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, ruling out that the Sunnis would abandon the conflict and give the representatives the opportunity to choose whom they see as suitable for the position.
Al-Jubouri said, “The Sunni component has been in conflict over the presidency of the House of Representatives for the past months and has not agreed throughout the past period on a single person to fill this long-vacant position.”
He added, "The Sunni House is unlikely to leave the choice to the members of parliament to choose the person they find suitable from among the candidates for the presidential position."
He explained that "there are candidates for the presidency of the House of Representatives, and no other figures can be nominated. Therefore, it is possible to resolve matters by having the candidates agree on a specific formula through which one of them withdraws so that the other can be voted on."
