    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Coordination Framework confirmed, today, Sunday (September 8, 2024), that there are no new developments regarding the election of a new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The representative of the framework, Ali Al-Bandawi, told Baghdad Today, "The crisis of the presidency of the Council of Representatives is still ongoing due to the continuing differences between the Sunni political blocs, and there is nothing new regarding this crisis in light of the Sunni-Sunni conflict."
He added, "The Coordination Framework is still working and seeking to bring together the viewpoints of the Sunni political forces and reach an agreement to support one candidate, especially after the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances announced their support for Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani's candidacy. There are no justifications for the continuation of the Sunni-Sunni conflict."
On November 14, 2023, the Federal Court announced the termination of Mohammed al-Halbousi’s membership as deputy and speaker of parliament, while the Sunni blocs have not yet succeeded in deciding the position due to disagreements and lack of consensus, as parliament failed in four attempts to elect a replacement for al-Halbousi in light of Sunni fragmentation and the insistence of the Coordination Framework on a consensus candidate.
On August 12, 2024, the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, announced an agreement to nominate a candidate for the presidency of parliament in exchange for giving up one of the ministries.
Al-Maliki said in a televised speech about the parliament presidency crisis, which was followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the legislative institution has been affected by a problem and is now managed by the first deputy and must be stabilized with a full presidency."
