The Health Insurance Authority has concluded contracts with 19 private and consulting wings in government and private hospitals, as part of the third phase of its scope of work.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Eqtisad News”, that the contracts included the private wings in the private nursing home, Ghazi Al-Hariri, Saad Al-Watri for Neurosciences, and Ibn Al-Haytham for Ophthalmology, in addition to the Al-Alawiya Educational Hospital for Childbirth, Al-Alawiya Children’s Educational Hospital, Al-Kindi Educational Hospital, Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimiya (peace be upon them), and Ibn Sina, as well as the National Center for Dentistry affiliated with the Department of Popular Medical Clinics and the Specialized Clinic at Baghdad Teaching Hospital and specialized dental centers and laboratories in the private sector.
He added that the contract also included three hospitals in the private sector, namely (Marina), (Middle East) and (Taj) National, and that doctors will be contracted during the next phase. Al-Hasnawi explained that the ministry has given attention to health insurance within the government program, as it is a long-term strategic project, indicating that the most prominent implementation of Social Security Law No. 22 of 2020 is the launch of electronic registration and automation of government procedures, to facilitate the completion of the provision of services and secure the medical file of the insured, and a team was formed to distribute social security books among state employees and their families in accordance with the law. He pointed out that 1.5 million insured persons from Baghdad employees are included, distributed among approximately 48 ministries and institutions, in addition to including 500 thousand people from the social protection network exempt from subscriptions, in addition to retirees and citizens. He added that the second phase has been launched, which is represented by invitations to contract between the Social Security Authority and unions to include their members in services, and insurance companies for expatriates and foreign residents.
Al-Hasnawi explained that “in its third phase, the health insurance will transfer all government health institutions that provide medical services to work under the public companies system, and private hospitals to private companies, and all of them will receive part of their funding from the insurance depending on the quality and quantity of services, while the larger funding depends on the government, and the Social Security Authority will finance some of it from citizens’ subscriptions,” stressing that the insurance aims to achieve social justice and reduce the financial burdens on citizens.
