    Statements varied regarding the agreement on the candidate Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and directing the compass to choose him as Speaker of Parliament, and the impossibility of reaching consensus within the Council to resolve the presidency crisis, which has been vacant for nearly a full year without a genuine speaker, succeeding Mohammed Al-Halbousi, who was dismissed by the Federal Court on charges of forgery.
    Parliament set Thursday as a date for a session to choose the new president, amidst confirmations from parties in the Coordination Framework that there is a political agreement to pass Mahmoud al-Mashhadani to the presidency, despite Salem al-Issawi continuing to run for the position. At the same time, political parties indicated that consensus on al-Mashhadani is still lacking, despite the framework’s tendency to choose him. However, other blocs may have a different position, which may take the council away from the agreements regarding al-Mashhadani.

    Independent MP Yasser Al-Husseini told Al-Maalouma, "The Coordination Framework is pushing towards resolving the issue of electing the Speaker of Parliament at a time when all Sunni blocs bear responsibility for the delay in electing the Speaker of Parliament," noting that "there is a lack of consensus within the Sunni house on a single candidate for the position, which may cause the session to choose the new speaker not to be held."
    Despite the exclusion of holding the session, Sovereignty Alliance member Ahmed Al-Dulaimi confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “a political movement by the forces led to a consensus on choosing MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani to head the parliament as a consensus candidate after settling the differences between the Sunni alliances and their acceptance of Al-Mashhadani as part of a political deal,” noting that “the leaders of the Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish alliances agreed to pass Al-Mashhadani during today’s session without any objection, and everyone will attend to vote in favor of Al-Mashhadani.”
    It seems that the candidate Al-Mashhadani did not obtain a 100% consensus to obtain the position of president, as the choice will be left to the representatives to vote for whomever they see fit for the position, despite the existence of a political directive from the leaders of the blocs to choose the candidates, as the representative of the State of Law Coalition, Asaad Muhammad, explained to /Al-Maalouma/, that "there are discussions and political movements to ensure the resolution of the presidency of the House of Representatives in the coming few days, especially after the Coordination Framework directed an invitation to the political blocs to end this crisis, as the absence of solutions within the Sunni house pushed towards leaving the choice to the House of Representatives in order to choose the new president of the council, after waiting for this matter for nearly a full year, and thus the members of the House of Representatives have the real solution to end the presidency crisis by voting in favor of one of the candidates proposed for the position." 

    Last week, the Coordination Framework called for an urgent meeting of the political blocs to decide on the selection of the new parliament speaker, and then to confirm setting Thursday as the date to resolve the controversy over the presidency file, in order to integrate the three presidencies and launch the process of confronting the challenges facing Iraq.
