Emphasizing the need to examine slimming drugs and not circulate them in local markets and provide them only in pharmacies
The Forensic Medicine Department of the Ministry of Health has obtained approvals to establish a new building and transform it into an advanced center for providing services, using electronic systems that reduce time and effort and ensure speedy results in legal cases.
The Director of the Department, Dr. Zaid Ali Abbas, told Al-Sabah: The Department has obtained initial approvals to establish a new building and transform it into an advanced center that aims to improve the quality of forensic medical services by updating the infrastructure with large spaces that are compatible with the requirements of the departments and in accordance with internationally approved international standards, with the application of modern electronic systems to facilitate the management of files and enhance the speed and accuracy of judicial procedures.
He explained that these updates contribute to reducing waiting periods and ensuring the provision of accurate and effective services to judicial authorities, relatives of the deceased, and visitors.
The spokesman explained that there is an ambition to increase the support provided to develop scientific competencies by organizing training courses inside and outside the country in cooperation with international organizations specialized in the departments of (genetic fingerprinting, mass graves, missing persons, forensic laboratories), in addition to working to achieve greater technological development for the purpose of conveying information to the reviewer easily by establishing a qualitative communication center and providing it with a special number for the purpose of contacting the department and following up on the necessary procedures to reduce effort and time, with the introduction of electronic software to identify the remains.
Abbas pointed out that there is a trend to establish specialized centers in major hospitals and provide a specialist in laboratories to diagnose cases of poisoning resulting from drug and toxic substance abuse for the purpose of providing urgent care and early diagnosis with the aim of reducing health complications and deaths, despite the presence of two toxicology laboratories in the department that reveal the causes of deaths and analyze biological evidence.
He pointed out that the strategic plan to combat drugs and psychotropic substances includes the establishment of a national database to record cases of poisoning and drug abuse to analyze trends, develop strategies, and provide treatment, as well as support to security agencies.
Abbas noted that the final steps to form the Forensic Medical Sciences Association have been completed, which aims to present ideas and evaluate work by holding conferences to explain the department’s objectives, and to emphasize the need to examine slimming drugs and not circulate them in local markets and provide them only in pharmacies, in addition to including a discussion of the issue of including forensic doctors within the experts’ law for the purpose of providing them with legal immunity.
Abbas revealed that the second conference on forensic medicine will be held this week to keep up with the latest developments in the field of global medicine with the participation of international organizations, in addition to discussing the development of a group of techniques in forensic medicine and updating the mechanism for writing forensic medicine reports, and security barriers to prevent forgery and manipulation.
Abbas referred to the efforts to develop advanced professional skills in the field of forensic evidence and its relationship to genetic fingerprinting, identifying perpetrators, investigating missing persons, resolving legal cases related to immigration and traffic accidents, using the latest technologies in resolving complex criminal cases, and the challenges facing DNA technology and ways to protect it legally.
