    Erbil (IraqiNews.com) -The Directorate of Mines in Erbil province announced lifting nine mines in 23 fields and allowing their residents to reside them.
    A statement by the Directorate received by IraqiNews.com cited “During 15 months, the Directorate could remove 9 thousand mines in 23 fields and allow their residents to reside them once again.”
    “The fields lie in Soran, Joman, Mirgasoor, Rawandooz and Shaklawa districts,” the statement concluded.

    US Embassy supports demining efforts in Iraq

    Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The US Embassy renewed its commitment to the demining process in Iraq.The US Embassy reported in statement received by IraqiNews.com. The US Embassy to Iraq hosted a meeting attended by its partners of the non governmental organizations and the international organizations and the meeting discussed the humanitarian efforts to demine Iraq.
    “Iraq is considered one of the top countries that contain mines in the worldwide, ” the statement pointed out, stressing that “The USA Government has donated more than USD (250) millions to support the efforts of demining Iraq since 2003.”

    Many decades of war will do that to a country, both sides are planting mines for protection, and as the battle lines move, they just add more mines to the new lines...
