[size=13]German Defense Minister arrives in Iraqi Kurdistan to discuss Islamic State[/size]
Erbil: German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen overnight Thursday arrived in Erbil to hold a series of meetings with top Kurdish officials on the latest security developments in the region. It is expected Von der Leyen will meet with Massoud Barzani and Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani on Friday. The ongoing war on Islamic State (IS), German military support for Kurdish Peshmerga forces, an imminent assault to liberate Mosul are on the agenda.  The German Defence Minister has arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday in an unannounced visit, to discuss the Mosul operation against Islamic State group. |

Baghdad: A petition proposed by Kurdish MP Hoshyar Abdullah received sufficient signatures to hold a session of the Iraqi Parliament, in which the “bad condition“ of employees in the Kurdistan Region could be debated. “In the absence of Kurdistan’s Parliament, I wish we could look in the Federal Parliament of Iraq into the salaries and the livelihood of employees,” Abdullah said in a statement posted to his Facebook account. Abdullah said Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and his deputies have shown a willingness to put on the agenda a debate over the salaries of government employees in the Kurdistan Region. “We are not committed to proceedings taken in the budgetary law in regard to oil and salary payments, despite meetings held from time to time between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government,” he said.

Baghdad: Senior Kurdish politician, Mahmoud Othman said that the Kurds do not have reservations about the participation of the popular mobilization forces at the Battle of Mosul, but they fear the outbreak of a Sunni – Shiite conflict after the liberation.” He told the National Iraqi News Agency that “the Kurds with any military effort to liberate the lands from Islamic State, therefore they do not mind the participation of the popular mobilization at the Battle of Mosul, which has become very close.” He added, “The US has actively intervened in order to bridge the gap in viewpoints between Baghdad and Erbil, for joint action of fighting IS and expel it out of all Iraqi territory,” |

United Nations: The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is looking the Iraqi central government in Baghdad for a frank discussion on the future autonomy of federalized region, KRG Foreign Minister Falah Mustafa Bakir told Sputnik. In a late August meeting between Massoud Barzani and Iraq PM Haider al-Abadi, the two discussed the unequal status of the federated region of Kurdistan, Bakir noted in a Thursday interview. “[Barzani] very clearly raised the issue of self-determination… and we want to raise that, to discuss that in a serious and meaningful discussion and dialogue with Baghdad, because we want to achieve our objectives peacefully,” Bakir said.
