    A spokesman for the international coalition to fight da'ash in Iraq and Syria, Col. Ryan Dillon, said on Thursday that coalition forces were subjected to an "unjustified" attack by the Syrian regime.
    "The coalition coordinated with the Russians before, during and after the targeting of pro-regime militias," Dillon said in a televised statement. "The coalition does not want to escalate, and what happened was self-defense and the allies."
    "Last week, the Russians told us that the Syrian regime was strengthening its forces in the region. The Russians told us of the raids before they happened through the line of engagement," he said. "We will respond to any attacks whatever their source.
    "The line of coordination with the Russians is very important to avoid any clash," Dillon said. "We do not expect a green light from the Russians to defend ourselves."
    "Two per cent of the land in Syria is under duress and continues to pose a threat," he said. "The organization is located in the vicinity of Boukmal, the fields and the northeastern border."
    The US-led coalition said it had carried out air strikes against "pro-Syrian forces" for an unprovoked attack on the headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
    He said his forces were stationed with the Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of factions in northern and eastern Syria, during an attack eight kilometers east of the dividing line to reduce the escalation on the Euphrates River.
    A US official said 100 fighters were killed in connection with the Syrian regime in what he called "confrontations" after the US-led coalition and local forces, backed by a large and coordinated attack, foiled it late on Wednesday and Thursday morning.
