The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Tuesday urged countries around the world to hand over terrorist children to non-convicts or juvenile offenders who have served their sentences.
"We urge all missions in Iraq, resident and non-resident, to take the initiative of taking over their nationals who have served their sentences or children who have not been convicted of a crime," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said.
He added that "we have opened embassies such as Azeri, Russian, German and other, on the receipt of children and events ended their sentences," explaining that "the nature of our work as external scrutiny and scrutiny, to the families of Daash, and the legal department manages the file of minors."
Iraqi authorities are holding 833 children from 14 different nationalities, a military official told AFP.
A Russian diplomatic source in Moscow told AFP that "Russia has begun to work to verify the identities of children and is working in the first step to bring them back to the country."
"We have about 70 Russian women prosecuted and more than 100 children," the source said.
"We do not have a handover now, but we continue to cooperate with these countries," said Mahjoub, "We do not exchange terrorists in prisons because there is no agreement between us and many countries in the world."
Iraqi authorities say many of the foreign fighters who fought in the country were from Russia, especially Chechnya and former Soviet republics.
