(Reuters) - Iran's claims from Iraq to pay eight-year war reparations (1980-1988) have been repeated more than once.
While the Iraqi government has been silent, a former spokesman said the claims "do not amount to a formal request," although they were issued by a deputy in the Iranian parliament.
The president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Hishmatullah Fallah Beshah, declared that the compensation are obligations can not be ignored in the relations between Iran and Iraq, saying that Iraq is able to pay war compensation to Iran and we expect that the implementation of this issue.
In regard to the latest developments on the payment of compensation for the Iraq war to Iran in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution, Peshah said in a statement to «Esna» that the compensation form an open file in the relations between Iran and Iraq and Baghdad to pay.
While the Iraqi side has not completely rejected the payment of compensation, Iran's repeated statements on the matter cause division in Iraq between those who believe that Iran has the right to claim compensation in accordance with the Security Council resolution, and those who reject it on the grounds that Security Council No. 598 did not talk about any compensation to any party in the war Took place between the two countries.
"The eight-year war is the Iraqi regime and the Iranian regime, and therefore it is not a sin for the Iraqi and Iranian people who were the fuel of that war," said Iraqi MP Ahmed al-Jubouri.
"It is unreasonable and after about 30 years opens the file of compensation under the survival of the Iranian regime and the demise of the former regime and therefore will be the biggest loser is the Iraqi people, regardless of who was the cause of the outbreak of war the Iranian regime or the Iraqi regime."
In the same vein, the deputy head of the Iraqi Center for Strategic Studies Basil Hussain said that «there is no justification for the Iranian claims for compensation for the war, which has been accompanied by some of the coded statements issued by the Iraqi votes», noting that «some statements came either from ignorance and lack of knowledge or bias Was blinded in accordance with pre-existing jurisprudence, while the first was to defend her country against claims that needed to be verified, particularly since resolution 598 did not mention the issue of reparations.
"This issue is political and is not based on international law or on UN Security Council resolutions and has no value on the ground," Hussein said.
In turn, former Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the claim for war compensation "does not amount to a formal request from the Iranian government but rather is an uncontrolled reaction against the comments of Prime Minister Abbadi, which has been corrected and clarified," referring to Abadi's initial commitment to sanctions The US on Iran before returning and declares that the commitment will be only not to deal with Iran in dollars.
"The Iraqis can not continue to bear the crimes of the former regime twice, whether by attacking Iran or Kuwait, and it is unfair that this people be punished by a cowardly cowardly decision from the head of the regime. The Iraqis were not in line with these decisions to bear the blame, The Iranians know this well by evidence that Iraqi factions were fighting with them against Saddam's regime. "
Al-Dabbagh said, "It is not appropriate for the Iranians to prepare the Iraqis as a result of a stupidity by Abadi, which has been remedied and dealt with, and the relationship between the two countries is solid and they must realize that Iraq is not a shadow of their relationship with others.
