Agriculture responds to Iran over Hor Great Fire: Comes in the context of political pressure

The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture replied on Monday to the Iranian government's accusation of its Iraqi counterpart in the failure to deal with the Great Hur fires on the common border.
Most of the Iranian statements issued in recent days, including the position of President Hassan Rowhani regarding the Great Hur fires, come in the context of political pressure on Iraq, said Hamid Nayef, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture.
"The fires are a security issue as it is clear, and our work is related to agriculture, but the Iranian side must first prove through careful investigations that the Iraqi side is responsible for the fires in Hawar," he said in a press statement.
"The fires are natural and occur all over the world in environments similar to the marshes with high temperatures and drought conditions," he said.
An Iranian official said on Sunday that Iranian President Hassan Rowhani had instructed the Iranian Foreign Ministry to issue a "protest" message to the Iraqi government because of the Great Hur fire inside Iraqi territory.
"Ruhani said in a letter to the Iranian Foreign Ministry that the continued fire in Hor al-Azim inside Iraqi territory has raised some doubts about its intent," said Mohsen Rihani, director general of environmental protection in Khuzestan province, Iran.
He added that "Rowhani called on the Iranian Foreign Ministry to send a letter of protest to the Iraqi government in this regard."
"Rowhani also instructed the Guards to take part in putting out the Great Hur fire inside Iraqi territory," Zadeh said.
And, that "the fire came on 20 thousand hectares of the Great Hor within the territory of Iraq."
Hor al-Azim is located in Iraq, in the suburb of Maysan, two-thirds of which is in Iraqi territory and one-third in Khuzestan province.
