"The cultivation of palm trees requires fertile ground, fresh water, fertilizer and the control of diseases such as hamra, spider and others," said the expert Malath al-Amin in a press statement.
Al-Amin pointed out that "Iraqi dates have a high reputation in the world, and the government should invest this by seeking to double the production and qualify the factories and the manufacture of dates for the purpose of export to be a good resource for the budget of the country," noting that "these plants are currently present in Baquba and Shamia, Basra and Karbala Hilla and in other areas, which is a state, where it was the role of packing dates and extraction of molasses as well as the manufacture of sweets that are exported abroad.
"The government has to implement plans to ensure that it does not return again, to prevent the bulldozing of palm groves in all provinces and to encourage the cultivation of good varieties that are desirable for export," he said.
