(Baghdad: Al Furat News) Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Halboussi promised on Saturday to provide a climate conducive to the work of journalists and ensure their right to access information.
"I congratulate the press family in Iraq on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day," Al-Halbusi said on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. He praised "journalists who have given their lives while performing their professional duties."
"Celebrating World Press Freedom Day each year is a reminder of the fundamental principles and aims to assess freedom of the press around the world and defend it against attacks that threaten its independence," said Halboussi.
He added that "the Iraqi Council of Representatives is seeking every effort to legislate laws that contribute to the achievement of free and independent Iraqi press, and these laws is the law of the rights of journalists No. 21 of 2011."
"We will work to provide a suitable environment for journalists to work and to have access to information without restrictions that limit or restrict the freedom of publication. We also try to ensure the rights of journalists without censorship. And pressure on government institutions to implement it. "
Halaboussi stressed "freedom of the press and access to information as a human right, saying: I pledge you as the head of the legislative authority in Iraq that does not prejudice the freedom of the press and no restrictions on them."
"Write what you want and be helpful to the parliament and the government, what you dictate from the ideas and what you are pursuing files of corruption and condemned phenomena will help the state and its institutions, including what may lead to the introduction of draft laws."
He concluded by saying "by registering the names of the verses of gratitude to the martyrs of the Iraqi press who have dedicated themselves to this profession, the profession of trouble and death, while seeking freedom of the press in Iraq of liberation, democracy and progress." is over
