World Economic Forum: 90% of cities in the world do not provide suitable housing

"In Africa, more than half of the population lives under substandard conditions," the report said.
The core challenges facing affordable housing include "land acquisitions, zoning, land use regulations, financing mechanisms, and design and construction costs," the report says.

The report explores the dynamics of supply and demand that affect affordability and directs decision-makers towards strategic interventions and long-term reforms. These reforms can reduce dependence on government support systems and stimulate more commercially affordable housing through Policies that address systemic gaps in the housing value chain.
