{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Integrity Commission revealed the issuance of a sentence of severe imprisonment for a period of five years against a member of the House of Representatives for the previous session, based on the provisions of Article (312) of the Penal Code.
In its discussion of the case that it investigated and referred to the judiciary, the Investigation Department of the Commission indicated that the Al-Karkh Misdemeanor Court for Integrity Cases issued a five-year prison sentence against the defendant on the background of an audio recording transmitted by the media that included the charges of (buying a representative seat) within a year 2018 at $ 250,000.
It is noteworthy that Article 312 of the Iraqi Penal Code stipulates that "shall be punished by imprisonment:
1. Each of the request or take the gift, benefit or advantage , claiming it was a bribe to an employee or assigned to public service and intends to keep them for himself.
2. Every person taking Al - Attiyah Or the benefit or benefit, or before anything of that, with his knowledge because of him, even if the employee or the public servant intended for the bribery had not appointed him or had known about him, unless he was a mediator of bribery.
In October 2018, Iraqi activists circulated on social media, a leaked audio recording that revealed, according to what it says, apparent manipulation in the results of the parliamentary elections that took place in May last year, and the intervention of senior political figures.
The audio leak was for the Secretary General of the National Assembly of Glory Sheikh Waddah Al-Sadid, and he is talking to the former deputy about the Alliance of Forces {Shatha Al-Abousi}.
It appears from the conversation that Sheikh Al-Sadid asked Al-Abbasi to mediate with an American institution called "Cambridge" to help him obtain a seat in his name in the House of Representatives, in exchange for a large sum of money.
And it seemed through the registration that the Iraqi MP has close ties to this institution, which - according to the leaked registration - is largely in control of the election results.
The registration also revealed that a large sum of money has been awarded to the American company in order to tamper with the election results and give Al-Sadd a parliamentary seat.
According to the Electoral Commission, the percentage of voting in the 2018 elections amounted to about 60%, and during the elections, more than nine thousand candidates competed with 108 political coalitions to occupy 328 parliamentary seats.
The 2018 elections witnessed many accusations between the competing political blocs about the existence of fraud, in addition to the electronic device that was used for the first time in manipulating the results, and not showing the correct results; which forced the House of Representatives to vote to re-count and manually sort by 10% for the polls in all governorates But the results are mostly identical.
The leaked registry revealed corruption by the Independent High Electoral Commission, and members of it were receiving bribes to change results for the benefit of politicians and party entities.
Following this, the commission issued a statement replying to the audio recording, denying that it was accused of interfering in changing the election results, noting that the registration, if proven correct, includes a "fraud and fraud" operation between the two parties, and pledged to prosecute them.
