Economist: The development road is a large and promising transit project...
    Al-Zawraa/ Hussein Faleh:
The Ministry of Transport confirmed that the Faw Port will be the starting point for the development road towards Europe, and while indicating that the development road will pass through 11 Iraqi governorates, economic expert Nabil Al-Tamimi explained that the development road is a large and promising transit project.
The ministry’s spokesman, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with “Al-Zawraa”: Under the direction of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Baghdad will host a meeting of the Ministerial Council that includes Turkey, Qatar and the Emirates on November 1st, to discuss the development road project.
He added: The Faw Port will be the starting point for the development road towards Europe, as the development road will transport goods from Asia to Europe and from Europe to Asia. He pointed out that there are international companies that are partners in setting general policies and economic and financial visions for the development road.
He explained: Turkey has a great interest in the passage linking it to Faw and reaching the heart of London, as a special financial sum has been allocated for the development road by the Turkish side. He stressed that there is progress in the preliminary design stages, in addition to the approvals of the project paths.
He pointed out that after the preliminary design stage, the transition will be to the detailed designs and then the implementation process, which will be during 2025. He indicated that Iraq is dealing with the development road project scientifically and realistically in accordance with the interests of the Iraqi people.
He continued: The project will pass through 11 Iraqi governorates. He pointed out that the first phase of the strategic development road project will be implemented next year, after the completion of the detailed design stage of the project.
He confirmed the completion of the feasibility study, and with regard to the preliminary designs, the completion rate of the railway track has reached 100 percent, while the completion rate of the land expressway has reached 75 percent, and we have completed the soil investigation and topographic survey operations by 100 percent.
For his part, economic expert Nabil Al-Tamimi said in an interview with “Al-Zawraa”: The development road is basically a large and promising transit project, and it is assumed that goods will be transported in large quantities from the port of Faw or the border points linked to southern Iraq to the north towards Turkey and Europe and vice versa.
He added: This project will be linked to other projects such as logistics services, industries, industrial cities or free trade zones. He indicated: The development road project, which is one of the main goals of the current government, is a transit project.
He pointed out: The project requires attached agreements, diplomatic discussions and the activation of bilateral agreements. He stressed: Iraq signed the international transit agreement years ago, but due to its isolation from the world since the nineties, most of the agreements were frozen.
He continued: Iraq today needs diplomatic and political efforts to reactivate such agreements in conjunction with the implementation of the development road project.[/size]
