Meetings conducted by the United Nations envoy to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Jeanine Hennes Blashart, with political leaders and other representatives [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , raised questions about their cause and consequences, amid calls that they should not be based on the interest of those parties at the expense of the country's interest.
Plasschaert's meetings come in light of a crisis that Iraq is going through, as a result of Washington's decision to close its embassy in Baghdad, due to the widening circle of bombing its sites in Iraq by pro-Iranian factions, amid attempts by the government to dissuade Washington from its decision, and to take pledges from the factions to stop its attacks.

According to a statement issued by the Media Office of the "Popular Mobilization", the leader of the "Hezbollah Brigades" militia, who is currently occupying the same time the position of chief of staff of the "Popular Mobilization Authority", Abdul Aziz al-Muhammadawi, nicknamed "the uncle", met with Blashart at the headquarters of " The popular crowd "in Baghdad.
The statement stated that "the two parties discussed developments in the security situation in the country, and the pursuit of the remnants of (ISIS) that is trying to disturb the security and stability in some areas."

The statement quoted Al-Muhammadawi as saying that "the Popular Mobilization Authority is an official institution linked to the Iraqi state and is subject to the decisions of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and that the crowd continues efforts to combat terrorism and return the displaced families, as it has made a great security and service effort to create the atmosphere to end the file of the displaced in Iraq."
He stressed "the need to stand with the state and its decisions and respect its prestige," praising the "role of the United Nations in supporting and assisting Iraq."
On Thursday, Plasschaert had a meeting with the head of the "State of Law" coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and discussed with him "issues and political and security developments in Iraq and the region."

Al-Maliki stressed, during the meeting, that "the escalation that Iraq is witnessing is a reflection of the intensity of the international-regional and regional-regional conflict in the region, and this is what he warned us about a lot." The possibility that various factions will enter the issue of the dispute over the presence of US forces, their survival or their withdrawal, and that they are not in the interest of the country's stability, "according to a statement issued by his office.
For his part, an Iraqi government official confirmed that "the UN envoy began to play the role of mediator, between the government and political and armed parties linked to Iran, in an attempt to discourage those factions from escalation," revealing that the meeting with Blaskhart, today, Friday, took place in the presence of figures from several armed factions, Most notably, "Hezbollah Brigades", "Al-Nujaba" and "Al-Tafouf", and the issue of cities that have been controlled by the militias for years and refused to return their people to them, such as Jurf al-Sakhr, Al-Awja, Yathrib, Al-Uaisat, and other areas were discussed.
The same official confirmed to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the envoy will also hold meetings with the American side and the Iraqi government.
He pointed out that "the results of Plasschaert's efforts are not known yet, but they will continue their meetings during the next two days." A member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Rami Al-Skini, asked about the outcomes of those meetings conducted by the UN official, and called for "the meetings to be based on the interest of Iraq, not the interest of other political parties."

Al-Skini told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: “The intervention of Plashart and its meetings must be in accordance with the interest of Iraq, and not in the interest of some political parties, or others, that want to cause turmoil in Iraq and cause it to suffer great losses,” indicating that “the United Nations can play a role. The mediator is between the government, between the factions, and the US administration, but this must be according to the country's interest. "
He stressed that "the position of the United Nations is a calming factor in the crisis that Iraq is going through, which may have dangerous repercussions on it," considering that "today it is not necessary that there be legitimacy for those factions in order for the meetings to take place with them, they exist on the ground, and there is turmoil in the field." Iraqiya and settling scores require intervention and mediation to get out of the crisis. "
He asked about "the outcomes of the meeting, its contents, and its repercussions regarding the solution to the crisis."
As for the former deputy, Abdul Karim Abtan, he told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, "The United Nations has begun to enter into the line of the Iraqi crisis by directing advice to these factions and calling on them not to escalate, especially in the stage that Iraq is currently going through." The escalation will leave Iraq with great international isolation, given that the factions are registered within the (Popular Mobilization), and within the Ministry of Defense, they must protect the state and prevent any offensive operations. "
He pointed out that "Iraq needs to impose the prestige of the state and order and to protect the diplomatic corps and missions," stressing that "the path of dialogue is the guarantor of overcoming crises, especially since there is a problem."
