BAGHDAD - Mawazine News
The Ministry of Agriculture announced, on Wednesday, that setting prices for fruits and foodstuffs is a thorny matter.
"The Ministry of Agriculture became after 2003 an extension and service ministry, so it is not authorized to give any quotation regarding agricultural crops," said the ministry’s spokesman, Hamid al-Nayef, according to the official agency.
He added, "If the slaughterhouses, allawi, fruits and vegetables belong to the Ministry of Agriculture, it would be possible to put a price tag by the ministry, but it is under the control of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Municipalities and the Baghdad Municipality," indicating that "all the allegiances and massacres belong to the private sector."
He pointed out that "the prices of foodstuffs are subject to supply and demand, and there is no customs pricing on the materials that enter the country through import, and that there are foodstuffs that have been satisfied locally and have been placed in the agricultural calendar, but they enter through smuggling." The absence of customs tariffs on products coming from outside Iraq. "
Al-Nayef added, "If there was a customs tariff on the materials entering Iraq, it would have been possible to raise the customs tariff so that the price of the imported product would be high, which encourages citizens to acquire the local product," noting that "what comes from abroad is currently less expensive because countries Al-Neighborhood supports its products in order to provide hard currency.
And he added, "Even if the Ministry of Agriculture puts a price tag, as happened with table eggs that were priced in agreement with the owners of poultry, this pricing is not obligatory, but rather it is done by understanding, and if there were allowances belonging to the ministry, the ministry would impose a daily price on foodstuffs" That "the security services cannot impose censorship on all Iraqi markets because this is a difficult task and needs a law to activate it, and that the currently controlling party is the office owners who impose prices on the grocers."
Al-Nayef called for "the return of the massacres and the rest of the vegetables to the Ministry of Agriculture, so that it can monitor the market." Ended 29 / A43
