The Assistant Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine said in a speech he delivered to a number of officials and professors of economics, "Is it possible for a country that owns the fifth oil reserves in the world, and the second oil reserves in the Middle East, to suffer from unemployment problems at this stage, while we are witnessing a dangerously high poverty line? And in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Husseiniya Holy Shrine.
Dr. Afzal Al-Shami added in his speech that “these conferences are held to achieve a set of goals, the most important of which is the product of researchers and those seeking to solve future problems, pointing out that the conference deals with an important detail and an existing problem related to the situation of the Iraqi economy, especially in light of the current circumstances as a result of the global outbreak of the (Corona) pandemic. And its reflection on the high rate of poverty in Iraq.
He explained that "the research that was selected focused on developing solutions to help decision-makers overcome crises, but let me speak as an Iraqi individual who lives within this atmosphere and I have several questions, and these questions are on the lips of many Iraqis, with their different classes, and I hope the researchers will answer them." On some of them in the folds of this scientific conference.
And the official website of the Husseiniya shrine quoted Al-Shami as saying, "Is it possible for a country that owns the fifth oil reserves in the world, and the second reserves in the Middle East, to suffer from unemployment problems at this stage, while we witness a dangerously high poverty line, and there are more than (80%) of Iraq’s budget goes outside the country because of the lack of industries, and the other reason is the lack of local production of simple consumer goods, which are produced in most neighboring countries, including countries that suffer from bigger problems than Iraq. The question is whether there is a deficiency in the Iraqi mind to solve these problems, or is there The scourge of corruption that hit the joints of the state, and for how long? Is it logical that Iraq's economy is rentier based on selling oil only, and eating its revenue, and we do not know where the fate of Iraq will be."
He pointed out, "What if there is an alternative energy to oil, when do we see the Ministry of Industry recovering, and the movement of the wheel of its factories, to employ tens of thousands of the unemployed, and to save tens of thousands of poor families, when we see the Ministry of Agriculture announcing that Iraq does not need any agricultural product imported from abroad? , so that agriculture returns and flourishes in the land of blackness, and here the new generation must play its role to develop economic plans for future generations, so that we do not become a curse for future generations, and so that we do not become a curse on what was squandered of Iraq's bounties.
For his part, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, said, “Iraq inherited four decades of lost development, in addition to the setbacks it experienced during the (Corona) pandemic and the deterioration of oil markets, as well as other problems, and this scientific conference (15 The joint is a development of public opinion, and it is the basis of science and progress for the country, and it is the economic decision-maker for the country, where we see the scientific public opinion supported by research and studies, this conference is very important and will have positive effects on decision-making in Iraq.
