    Baghdad: Shaima Rashid

A number of deputies demanded to change many of the laws currently in force, which are not commensurate with the great changes that have occurred, especially in recent years, stressing that the new penal code submitted by the Presidency of the Republic is a step in the right direction.
MP Saran Al-Aagebi said in an interview: “The country today needs a re-examination of all existing laws, some of which are no longer deterrents, which has led to the spread of crime, especially with the existing electronic development,” noting that “the law of information crimes is one of the laws that will solve many problems in If it is approved.”
He added, "Changing the Penal Code by the Presidency of the Republic is a good step, and the government should work in this direction and adjust its order of priorities regarding laws to find out what is appropriate, especially since most of the laws in force today are very old and not in harmony with the development taking place in the country."
For her part, Member of Parliament Bahar Mahmoud said: "The reformulation of the Penal Code by the Presidency of the Republic is an excellent step and is credited to it because the country needs to amend all laws, not just the Penal Code."
And she added, "The system in Iraq was changed from a presidential system to a parliamentary system, but the laws remained the same, as there is a legislative chaos, as many laws are suspended due to the decisions issued by the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council."
