, the legal advisor to the President of the Republic, Munif Al-Shammari, revealed the most prominent articles developed in the new penal code.
Al-Shammari said, "The Penal Code began as a draft that was prepared by the Supreme Judicial Council and sent to the Presidency of the Republic," noting that "the new law has been worked on since 2019".
He added, "The Penal Code (111) of 1969 made amendments to more than half of it, which makes it difficult for the applicator or judge to implement it," stressing that "the new law took into account the agreements, treaties and international laws signed by Iraq, especially those related to human rights."
He explained that "the most prominent articles developed in the new law, including the reduction of most of the death sentences to life or temporary imprisonment according to the type of crime, and the introduction of penalties such as social service for the prisoner instead of imprisonment, as well as the development of legal articles for those who pass examination questions in ministerial exams, as well as impersonators on communication sites Social and electronic blackmail crimes.” Ended 29/A87
