For his part, Ambassador Phil Variola affirmed the European Union's support to Iraq and the need to respect its sovereignty and not to interfere in its internal affairs. He valued the efforts of the Iraqi government in holding the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership.
He also affirmed the European Union's continuation of providing humanitarian support, supporting the Iraqi government's efforts to combat terrorism, and supporting it with military advisors.
The minister stressed the need to strengthen relations between Iraq and the European Union countries within the framework of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, to encourage solid European companies to invest in Iraq, and to work for the European Union to have a greater role in the international arena.[/rtl]
