{Local: Al Furat News} The farmers of Al-Muthanna Governorate appealed to the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, on Thursday, to reduce the decision of the agricultural plan and to pay the farmers' dues.
In a statement on behalf of the farmers and peasants of the governorate, Sheikh Maytham Karim al-Muttalib appealed to the Sheikh of the Al-A’ajib clans in Muthanna, saying: “For the purpose of reconsidering the decision to reduce the winter agricultural plan by half, we also demand the payment of dues to farmers whose crops were marketed and did not receive their dues, which creates difficulties in their preparation for the winter season. In addition to the aggravation of the debts they owe and the emergence of many problems in their lives, because their livelihood depends on the income of their farms.
He added, "Agriculture is permanent oil and is the basis for ensuring food security for the country now and in the future. Therefore, we demand increased support and encouragement, especially in the prices of fertilizers, seeds and fuel."
He pointed out that "the current measures create frustration and reluctance among farmers and peasants, which leads to a decrease in agricultural production, and this forces the government to import, and we are the land of blackness, the land of Mesopotamia."
He appealed to the Prime Minister "to reconsider the decision to reduce the agricultural plan, pay farmers' dues and increase support for this vital sector, especially in the prices of seeds, fertilizers and fuel."
