"Oil will run out"... Iraqi agriculture demands its sovereignty and financial support
Shafaq News/ Today, Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture demanded that it be a "sovereign ministry backed by money", indicating that lifting subsidies for the farmer had a negative impact on the citizen's food basket.
Ministry spokesman Hamid Al-Nayef told Shafaq News Agency, "The state's policy within the white paper is the trend towards a market economy," noting that "the Iraqi citizen still believes that the state takes care of everything and throws weight on the state in its affairs."
Al-Nayef added, "The Ministry of Agriculture should be a sovereign ministry that supports funds to cover the expenses of farmers and all investors so that it can promote the agricultural sector, which is the food basket of the citizen."
He pointed out that "the state has lifted all support from farmers and farmers, whether with regard to fertilizers or pesticides and everything in the agricultural sector," pointing out that "what was delivered to farmers of fertilizer with 35% subsidy is the remainder of last year."
Al-Nayef stressed that "all countries in the world are proud of their agricultural production, not oil, as oil is depleting, but agriculture is inexhaustible."
It is noteworthy that Iraq imports a lot of vegetables and fruits from neighboring countries as a result of the farmers' reluctance to agriculture and the lack of support provided to farmers.
The successive Iraqi governments since 2003 have included six sovereign ministries backed by the largest part of the state’s public budgets, which are foreign, interior, finance, defense, oil and electricity
