     Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf: Hussein Al-Kaabi

Although visitors to the holy shrines are allowed to visit through Najaf airport, their numbers are very few and do not meet the actual need for this sector, at a time when the governorate’s hotels suffer from a decline in the number of guests, as some of them closed and most of the workers were dismissed.
The head of the Association of Tourist Hotels and Restaurants, Saeb Abu Ghoneim, told Al-Sabah: “More than 85% of the visitors to the holy shrines are from Iran, yet there are no facilities for the Iranian side or for non-Arab countries such as Arab or European countries.”
And he indicated that "the matter is not limited to Najaf and Karbala only, but also to all the holy shrines in Kadhimiya, Adhamiya and Samarra, but we mention Karbala and Najaf because the focus of religious tourism is in them."
Abu Ghoneim added that “the government has opened the air port for religious tourism through the airports, but the cost of air travel is very high for the Iranians, because the price of one hundred dollars for them amounted to three million tomans, meaning that a round trip costs one person nine million tomans if the price of the ticket is 300 dollars.”
He believes that "most of the Iranian visitors are from the poor classes, so this high cost of travel will make their numbers very few, not exceeding 200, 400 or 500 visitors at best, a number that does not meet the ambition, if we know that Najaf hotels have more than 50,000 beds." .
Abu Ghoneim stressed, “the need for a bold decision to open land ports for visits, while adhering to the decisions of the Crisis Cell and the World Health Organization, and adhering to medical examinations that ensure that the Corona virus does not spread,” explaining that “traveling by land does not cost the visitor more than 50 dollars for bus tickets, while plane tickets range from Between 250 and 300 dollars round trip.
He stressed that "the country, during these difficult circumstances, needs to move the tourism sector to be supportive of the national economy, especially after the devaluation of the currency and the financial crisis caused by the Corona epidemic."
