    Today, Friday, the Ministry of Water Resources confirmed the cancellation and filling of dozens of bypassed wells, due to the excessive use of groundwater, which is the share of generations and should only be used in times of severe scarcity.
    A spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources, Ali Radi, said, "The Ministry of Water Resources attaches great importance to groundwater and the process of drilling wells, especially at this stage in which Iraq suffers in general from water scarcity and lack of water revenues with the challenges of climate change that the world suffers in general and the region."
    He added that "Iraq is one of the countries most affected by climate changes and has been ranked globally in fifth place, in addition to Iraq's location as an estuary and not a source of rivers in general, whether the Tigris, Euphrates, or rivers from the eastern side."
    He added that "the Ministry of Water Resources is concerned with the management of raw water of all kinds, whether surface or groundwater," noting that "the exploitation of water and drilling wells is within a well-studied plan that is developed according to certain data for the storage in these reservoirs, groundwater reservoirs and their distribution at the level of all areas of Iraq.
    He added, "The ministry has a specialized department called the Ground Water Department and the Well Drilling Department, which owns a large number of experts, as well as specialized staff and mechanisms specialized in drilling those wells, in addition to the modern technologies that are used, as well as the existence of a database that gives everything related to the components of Ground water and well drilling.
    Regarding the mechanism of granting approvals for drilling wells, he explained: “It should be within the determinants and laws determined by the Ministry of Water Resources to be referred to the sectoral authority in order to determine the locations, specifications, depths of these wells and their distributions, in addition to the nature and quality of the water present in these areas, as it varies from one region to another. “.
     He pointed out that “ground water is considered a strategic storehouse for future generations and must be taken care of and taken care of,” noting that “the ministry is not against the exploitation of groundwater or against the establishment of investment projects, but these projects and drilling wells must be within the fundamental approvals of the concerned sectoral authority, which is The Ministry of Water Resources exclusively and its competent departments.
    He explained that “the Ministry of Water Resources is against the unjust use of groundwater, as dozens of bypassed wells were canceled and filled in,” noting that “this water can be used in emergencies and cases of scarcity when surface water does not reach some areas, where wells can be drilled for those areas to secure Drinking water, as well as raw water for liquefaction plants or water for orchards.
    He pointed out that “in all governorates, there are dozens of wells, especially in the conditions of the last shortage, as 200 wells were drilled and rehabilitated last season in Diyala governorate only and some areas that do not reach surface water or areas that suffer from water scarcity,” noting that “the ministry is based on Through its department concerned with digging those wells to benefit from their water, fill the need and mitigate the effects or damages of water scarcity.
