    Earth News/ The Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Tuesday, that it held a consultative meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to choose an area for a pilot project for land and water productivity by sensing wapor, noting that the project aims to increase farmers' profits and revenues.
    A statement by the ministry, received by Earth News, stated, "It held, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO, a consultative meeting to choose an area for a pilot project for land and water productivity by sensing wapor, in cooperation with the relevant ministries (Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Environment), in the presence of Dr. Yasser Hassan Saleh, Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department, Dr. Zaid Hamoudi, Director General of the Planning Department at the Ministry of Water Resources, Ms. Veronica, Deputy Permanent Representative of the FAO in Iraq, and Dr. Hadi Hashem, Coordinator of the FAO in the Ministry of Agriculture and a number of specialists.
    And the ministry indicated that “this meeting is through which the project implementation area is selected within agricultural areas in any of the governorates of Iraq, so that the data portal for the wapor project is applied to calculate the water budget with its multiple vocabulary and evaluate the performance of this budget in achieving a higher yield by using specific quantities of water and reducing the waste of irrigation water “.

    She added, "This project aims to increase farmers' profits and revenues by reducing production costs, reducing water losses, and preserving the soil from salinization."
    For her part, Veronica indicated "the importance of attending and holding this meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and urged all partners to cooperate in order to implement the success of this project with the support of the FAO."
    The statement indicated, "This project comes as one of the projects implemented by the organization in Iraq to support the agricultural sector by using modern technologies to monitor and address the challenges facing this sector, foremost of which are water scarcity, drought and climate change."
