      The Ministry of Trade confirmed, today, Saturday, the stability of food prices in the local markets in Baghdad and the provinces, despite the global crises, the last of which was the Ukrainian.
    The ministry stated in a statement, quoting the official spokesman, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the supervisory teams of the Commercial and Financial Control Department checked the prices of all foodstuffs in the local markets and noted stability in all foodstuffs prices, except for a slight increase in edible oil, which Produced in Ukraine, which confirms the cooperation of the Iraqi private sector and wholesalers with citizens in not creating a state of anxiety and fear as a result of what is happening in the world of political and security developments as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the major economic crises that may result in it that lead to a new rise in food prices Because of the position of the two countries on the economic map.
    And she added, "The department is implementing, in coordination with the Directorate of Combating Organized Crime and the Iraqi National Security Apparatus, a continuous campaign in Baghdad and the governorates to follow up on food prices in wholesale and retail markets
    ." And the discrepancy in prices between governorates is very slight, and this depends on population density, supply and demand,” noting that “the recent rise in some materials is due to the rise in food prices globally, as well as the prices of sea freight.”
    Hanoun added that "the adoption of the Ministry of Trade and its continuation in distributing the food basket contributed to reducing the impact of the high prices of these materials on the Iraqi citizen, at a time when the supervisory teams are following up the work of the agents to ensure the receipt of the food basket items and their distribution to the citizens."
    And he called on the honorable citizens, to "contact the hotline or the branches of the control departments spread throughout the governorates in the event that violations are detected and the opportunity is missed by those who are tempted to exploit citizens."
