Trade confirms the implementation of 3 measures to deal with the rise in food prices

On Monday, the Ministry of Commerce confirmed dealing with any increase in the prices of materials through 3 measures, while indicating that the food basket needed flour.
"The rise in food prices resulted from a global crisis as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as they are among the largest exporting countries," said spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Mohamed Hannoun.
He added, "In Iraq, we put the food basket in a line parallel to the price line, alleviating the burdens of the citizens. Therefore, Cabinet Resolution No. 160 was a qualitative leap for paying attention to the ration card and preparing 7 items for (40) million Iraqi citizens."
He stressed that "the ministry pumped large quantities of foodstuffs through two baskets in parallel with the continuation of the war, and the Ministry of Planning reports that there is a significant decrease in the demand for foodstuffs in commercial markets, and this is a great development because the citizen has become dependent on what he receives of foodstuffs and we follow prices and treat them." That is, an increase in three measures, which are the legal formulas to deter violators and raise awareness, as well as the distribution of the ration card items.
He added, "Some merchants set up a monopoly, which caused prices to rise, and we took measures against 50 merchants."
He stressed that "trade has a good stock of local wheat and does not hesitate in distributing flour, and a contract was made to purchase 150,000 tons of Australian wheat and another 100,000 of German wheat. We are close to the marketing season also to supply the ministry with quantities of local wheat amounting to 3 million tons."
