Government officials have warned against circulating false information about hemorrhagic fever, calling for the adoption of official statistics regarding injuries and deaths.
A spokesman for the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Haider Majid, said, "The Iraqis are currently preoccupied with hemorrhagic fever, and this disease has met with media intimidation at the present time."
Majid continued, "There are incorrect numbers published in the media about the number of injuries," calling for "to take information from its correct sources."
He pointed out, "a joint government effort represented by the Ministry of Agriculture through the procedures of its departments spread in the governorates, as well as the case for the Ministry of Health."
Majid stressed, "The health institutions have dealt with critical cases, and more than half of the injured have recovered and have left the hospitals."
He noted, "The Ministry of Health has gained experience in dealing with these diseases, especially after the great effort of medical staff in dealing with the Corona virus." Majeed expressed his hope that "Iraq will overcome this crisis through the cooperation of all relevant parties." For his part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Saif Al-Badr, stated that “media intimidation in dealing with the disease and giving false information is incorrect, as is the case with indifference.” Al-Badr continued, "The Ministry of Agriculture is the concerned authority in the first place with regard to diseases common between animals and humans." He pointed out, "The epidemiological situation of hemorrhagic fever is the registration of at least 55 infections, 12 of which ended in death." Al-Badr stressed that "more than half of the injuries and deaths are in Dhi Qar Governorate." He continues, "The ministry has the ability to detect cases early through the central health laboratory, and we have the ability to do so, as well as follow up on suspected cases."
Al-Badr stressed that “the supportive treatment during the early stages of the disease has a very high probability of survival,” warning of “the seriousness of the disease, as the death rate in it reaches 40%.” And he spoke about "a message that should reach citizens, which is to maintain hygiene and wear paws, especially livestock breeders."
Al-Badr concluded, “The disease is not new to Iraq, but rather dates back to the seventies of the last century, but the injuries during this period have doubled.”
